When people picture a coffee roastery, they usually picture gas roasters and diesel delivery vans — not solar panels and rainwater tanks. But here in Robe, South Australia, that's exactly what keeps Mahalia Coffee running.

90% of the power we use to roast, pack and ship your coffee comes from our own solar and battery storage. Robe gets a lot of sun, and rather than draw that energy from the grid, we generate and store most of what we need on site.

Power is only half of it. Through winter, when the rain rolls in off the Southern Ocean, we run our business on filtered rainwater — collected, filtered and used right here at the roastery instead of drawing on mains supply.

Neither of these things show up in the cup. You won't taste the solar panels or the rain tanks in your morning coffee. But they're part of how we've chosen to run a small, family business — quietly, and with as light a footprint as we can manage, batch after batch.
